About Andrew Venable

Studied at Monroe Community College and just short of my 2-year degree I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. I served 11 years with a primary MOS of Electro-Optical Ordnance technician while achieving additional roles/positions including Armory Chief, Platoon Sergeant, Primary Marksmanship Instructor, Marine Security Guard (MSG), Security Forces squad leader, Marine Corps Base 29 Palms Master train the trainer for Suicide Prevention, plus a handful of other interesting things. As an Electro-Optical Ordnance repairman my primary role was the accountability, maintenance and servicing of all small-arms and optical components used to support fire-control, equipment organic to the Regiment group I was assigned. During my tour in the Philippines I operated as a squad leader for the security forces protecting base security posture and manning/oversight 24/7 of all entry/exit control points. I received commendations for my personal handling of a device brought on base as well as the timely and appropriate reaction of locking down the base to prevent major loss of life and government assets. Additionally, I volunteered to act as part of a personal security detail escorting important persons traveling throughout the region.During my tour in the Middle East I achieved an award for the identification/resolution of damaged ordnance/optical devices organic to our area of operation saving our unit/base significant logistical & maintenance fee’s towards the maintenance, logistics and repair cost.My 3 years assisting the state department in embassy security I received an award from our ambassador in Nairobi for reaction to a hostile entity within the embassy compound. I received commendations from state secretary Clinton for actions taken during her visit. I received commendations for assisting our Legal Attaché office while involved in a hostile threat in Africa.After completing my service I began my next journey working for Corning Incorporated and currently serve in precision optics in operations and as a technical lead assisting with day to day clean room manufacturing operations. I am currently enrolled in the Corning Precision Optics Manufacturing-Technician apprenticeship. Upon completion I will earn a journeyman’s apprenticeship, and will continue to earn the MCC Optical Systems Technology certificate.
