About Andy Evans

I am a qualified CA (SA) with over 13 years of financial services industry experience. I have been fortunate to gain significant international experience, having lived in the UK for 3 years and in the USA for 9 months. In addition to dealing with multinational businesses with operations across the world, I have also had exposure to small entities and start-ups. I have a passion for start-ups having been involved in a number of early-stage businesses, helping to set them up from an administrative point of view, as well as driving business growth. In the UK, I had a front-row seat to a number of interesting investments on the cutting edge of innovation and technology. I was able to analyse and understand the rationale behind the investment decisions, as well as following their progress and growth. On a personal side, I have successfully invested in over a thirty early-stage companies through crowdfunding platforms in the UK. Among others, the joy of working with start-ups is the inherent questioning of the status quo to find innovative ways of doing things. My accounting and financial management experience provide a solid base for understanding the greater business risks and what makes a successful business tick. I have an inquisitive mind that is always looking to learn, try new things and expand my skill-set. I returned to South Africa from the UK at the end of 2018 to make a difference and have an impact on this country and the region. There is huge potential in South Africa to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. We are underdeveloped in numerous fields and there lies enormous opportunity to leverage new technologies to find creative solutions, create employment and offer previously unattainable services to under-serviced communities. This will hopefully contribute to solving some of the greater social issues of poverty and inequality. I am a passionate sportsman/fan and I am currently involved in golf, tennis, road/trail running and yoga. I am an avid traveller and have visited parts of Africa, Europe, North and Central America, the Middle East and South-East Asia. I have a great love of nature, the bush and conservation. I was recently involved in a mountain bike race where our team raised over R60k for vulture conservation. Other interests include hiking, fishing, music, writing, reading, chess, current affairs and have an active portfolio on the stock market.
