About Andy Garnier

When I was young, I wanted to be a comedian because I loved making people smile and laugh. After some contemplation, I realized that as fun as telling jokes would be, my true passion is to make a meaningful difference in the world. For this reason, I was driven to science with scientific breakthroughs dramatically changing people's lives and the course of history for the better. Biochemistry appeals to me because of the humanistic applicability of the subject. Important topics in biochemistry include cancer, aging, diseases, understanding the cell, and more. For my bachelor’s honours thesis, I used groundbreaking computational techniques to study a protein associated with neurodegenerative diseases. For my master’s thesis, I used computational techniques for cancer drug development while simultaneously testing these drugs and exploring cancer treatment mechanisms in the lab. I am passionate about topics in biochemistry and am always eager to learn. Today I have taken my love for comedy and integrated it into my life as a biochemist. I enjoy keeping a light-hearted attitude and getting the most joy out of life while continuing to work hard and diligently to learn and, one day, make a difference.
