About Andy Jenkins

Qualified practicing pharmacist, PhD researcher and Medical and Scientific Liaison Manager. Recently undertook a secondment as an International Medical Affairs Manager based in Basel, Switzerland. Widely varied experiences across hospital and community pharmacy, academia and now the pharmaceutical industry.During my industry and academic career I have delivered lectures/presentations to healthcare professionals and students, presenting at national and international conferences, publishing original research as first author and being an expert reviewer for a peer-reviewed journal. My role in the pharmaceutical industry has seen me become a medical and scientific expert in the field of gastroenterology and lead a number of different teams to produce various clinical and educational outputs. The MSL role has allowed me to work closely with a range of consultant gastroenterologists, nurses, specialist pharmacists and regulatory bodies across the UK and internationally. Here, I produce and deliver high quality medical education in a range of formats, including educational presentations to a range of healthcare professionals and internal staff, publishing articles for magazines/websites targeting both healthcare professionals and patients, conducting research projects (e.g. independent research and in collaboration with Cardiff University) and attending national and international conferences. I have also been the lead medic for the launch of a new pharmaceutical product.My PhD saw me undertake innovate and original research, the findings of which were shared with the GPhC. In this role, I also ran workshops and lectures for a range of healthcare professional students (particularly MPharm students) and was the first pharmacy PhD candidate to undertake student admission interviews to Cardiff School of Pharmacy. My role as a clinical pharmacist at Manchester Royal Infirmary, The Nightingale Hospital North West and St Joseph’s Hospital, Newport, required me to balance the clinical demands of multiple wards and keep clinically up to date in a variety of specialisms. I recently volunteered in this role to help on the COVID-19 wards during the pandemic alongside my MSL position. I was involved in the COVID-19 Nightingale Hospital North West from it’s opening until it’s close in July 2020 and was involved in the development of SOPs and continuous improvement of the pharmacy service. Since this I returned to help as a clinical pharmacist in the third UK COVID-19 wave in January 2021 on the medical wards within Manchester Foundation Trust.
