About Andy Robson

It's only now, looking back, that I realise how much my parents shaped the path I'm on.My love of ships and the sea comes from my dad, a Master Mariner who used to take me on and off vessels when I was barely big enough to climb the gangway. My enthusiasm for travel (and storytelling) comes from his often hilarious tales from his time at sea. My determination comes from my mum, who would tell me, “Just try your best”, advice I still lean on today.I’ve always been a risk-taker. I left my first marine job before I’d even secured my place at university. And I’ve always believed that humour gets you through the tough days. Engineering is serious, but the people doing it don’t have to be. No one wants to work with someone who can’t laugh at themselves.Away from work, I love cooking, especially on a Friday night when the tunes go on, the gin comes out, and I attempt to conjure something impressive out of whatever's left in the fridge. My wife tolerates it, the beagle benefits from it and I enjoy it.I love the outdoors too, whether that’s taking the dog round the block before work or scuba diving somewhere warmer than the North Sea. One day I’ll spend more time doing that. I’ll always be an engineer though and I doubt I’ll ever stop being fascinated by the sea.Today, I run A Squared Engineering, a specialist offshore engineering company working on high-risk, high-consequence projects. We’re trusted by national oil companies, FPSO operators, P&I clubs, OEMs and legal teams to solve problems where the stakes are high:– stopping jack-ups falling over– analysing container stack collapses as expert witnesses– providing specialist FEA for offshore equipment– supporting life-extension programmes for complex assetsWhat started as one engineer with a laptop is now a growing team delivering serious engineering with integrity, clarity and accountability. If you want to talk ships, offshore challenges, or what floats your boat, drop me a message.
