About Anees Ahmed

I am an international commercial lawyer with more than 8 years of experience in international commercial law, mergers & acquisitions, banking law, and commercial arbitration. I completed my master's degree in Comparative Business Law from University of Mannheim in 2019. Since then I have been working as in-house legal counsel at Cheplapharm Arzneimittel GmbH, one of the finest pharmaceutical companies in Germany and have been actively involved in mergers & acquisition transations (M&A) for the company. Since 2020, I have handled and successfully completed more than 10 M&A transactions for the company. Besides M&A, I have advised and assisted all departments of company on commercial as well as technical contracts and also on general commercial law issues. In 2014 I acquired my bachelor‘s degree in law from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan on a fully-funded scholarship and qualified as an Advocate High Court (Court of Appeals) in Pakistan. Following my graduation, I have been involved in corporate and commercial law, commercial arbitration and banking as an Associate at Abraham & Sarwana (“the Firm”), one of the leading law firms in Pakistan. During these years, I have advised clients on complex commercial disputes involving local and international commercial transactions, drafting, vetting & enforcement of commercial contracts, and regulatory & compliance issues. I have also advised local Banks on structuring different kinds of finances, restructuring and rescheduling of finances, and secured transactions laws. I have filed and defended several complex cases seeking recovery of outstanding loans including syndicated loans involving as many as five financial institutions. I have also assisted local banks in negotiating the best settlement and/or compromise agreements with their customers for recovery of outstanding finances and have enjoyed it the most. I have assisted clients in disputes involving local and international arbitration. I have advised Firm’s clients on various aspects of international arbitration under the ICC as well as UNCITRAL rules, and in different arbitral seats. I have also handled litigation proceedings in Pakistan seeking enforcement of foreign arbitration agreements and awards under the New York Convention. In May 2017, I was selected as the first Regional Representative from Pakistan to represent at the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum for a period of two years.
