About Angela Brown

I have 20 years of experience as a Program Manager with an abundance of experience in working with community-based organizations and teaching continuing education courses to professionals. I have been recognized for providing outstanding strategic direction to the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to meet certification performance measures outlined in the state’s Highway Safety Plan. Throughout my career, I have lead the operations of programs designed to educate the public on injury prevention/public health and establish local organizations through a train-the-trainer model, as leading resources for their community. My strategic direction involved developing community focused initiatives that supported student recruitment, establishing meaningful partnerships, outlining need assessments that would address particular problem areas, and streamlining resources to save economic resources. In addition, I have provided leadership to a statewide instructor team, ensuring that the team stayed up to date on; policies and procedures set forth by the certifying body, curriculum development, and guiding them in successful classroom and resource management. I have a passion to teach. My philosophy of education is that all learners possess characteristics to be leaders that contribute successfully to the well-being of others and their selves. My role as an educator is to strengthen those leadership traits and skills, as well as help the student discover new skills. I want to challenge students to use resources, skills they have learned, and experiences to think independently and make sound decisions. In order to thrive, learners need a unique and stimulating educational environment that involves multiple learning techniques –visual, aural, verbal, physical, logical, social, and/or solitary. It is my desire to cultivate this type of learning environment where students are challenged and able to evolve into strong leaders. CAREER HIGHLIGHTS • Trained and certified thousands of professionals since 2004. • Participated as a plenary speaker for the largest traffic safety conference in the world- National LifeSavers Conference. • Served as the Diversity Chair for the National Child Passenger Safety Board. • Former team member of the Meharry-State Farm Alliance, who was instrumental in assisting over 10 states pass primary seat belt legislation- Former President Obama (Senator Obama at the time) was a recipient of an award given by the Alliance. • Published -Co-author of research published in the International Journal of Pediatrics.
