About Angela Chaplin

Angela Chaplin is a producer, theatre director, arts manager, writer, dramaturg, and festival/event creator. She has directed over one hundred theatre productions, commissioned more than thirty writers and worked with numerous other collaborators, with many of her productions being multi art form. Angela has been the CEO and Artistic Director of three publicly funded theatre companies in Australia including Arena Theatre, Magpie Theatre and Deckchair Theatre. She was also the Executive Director of Ausdance Qld. Angela has also worked with many arts companies in a freelance capacity including directing for Company B Belvoir, Sydney Theatre Company, Chamber Made Opera and the State Theatre Company of South Australia, Handspan and Theatre North. She has toured nationally and internationally and Angela has directed for companies in several other countries. Her work with and for young people was acknowledged through her membership of the Executive of ASSITEJ (the International Association for Theatre for Young People). Her achievements have also been recognised with both national and international awards for directing, writing and development partnership innovation. She was at the beginning of the cutting edge community engagement inspired arts movement in Australia as a member of the Mill Theatre Company ensemble and is known for her creation of work in non traditional venues. Angela has lived and worked in regional Australia including Mackay and Geelong. She has held senior positions in arts organisations in Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane. She is privileged to have worked extensively with Australia's First Nations artists and communities and many other groups from non dominant cultures. As a producer, in addition to her work in theatres she has produced festival, events in regional communities, delivered outdoor events and produced cabarets, independent theatre productions and exhibitions. From 2019 to 2023 Angela was a Producer at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. She is thrilled to have recently taken up the position of Director, Touring and Engagement at Stage Queensland,
