About Angela Henderson

I’m a visual artist and design educator based in Kjipuktuk, Mi’kma’ki (Halifax, Nova Scotia), working at the intersection of art, ecology, and social practice. My work spans drawing, sculpture, installation, and pedagogy—linked by a deep interest in how we make meaning with and through the more-than-human world. In my art practice, I explore the entanglements of nature, memory, and unconscious knowledge. Through drawing and installation, I investigate how botanical imagery and scientific illustration are tied to systems of classification and control—reimagining them through intuitive, post-observational methods that emphasize ambiguity, relational presence, and ecological attunement. As a design educator, I teach across studio and theory courses that challenge extractive paradigms in design. My pedagogy emphasizes embodied mapping, play, and site-specific engagement—often working with students, communities, and children to explore civic space, housing justice, and ecological care. I’m especially interested in how speculative and participatory design can nurture reciprocal relationships between people and place.
