About Angela M Cannata

Angela received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from California State University, Northridge in 2019. During her undergraduate degree, she participated in research as a RISE and MARC U*STAR Scholar, working with Dr. Eric Kelson in the Chemistry department and Dr. Mary-Pat Stein in the Biology department. Her undergraduate research experience is listed under "Projects" below. Additionally, she participated in research at other institutions during the summer of 2017 and 2018. In 2017, she worked with Dr. Ian Lewkowich at the University of Cincinnati (SURF-GE program) examining the contribution of NF-kB pathways to IL-17A-mediated asthma exacerbation. In 2018, she worked with Dr. Amy Palmer at the University of Colorado, Boulder (Leadership Alliance National program) studying the effects of zinc on cAMP-PKA signaling in neurons. She finished her B.S. as a Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral scholar and Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program recipient from the California State University system. CURRENTLY, she is a 6th (and final) year PhD candidate under Dr. Lewkowich at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital studying the role of Mucosal Associated Invariant T (MAIT) cells in lean and obese asthma. This work is funded through her well received NIH F31 grant (NHLBI). She is passionate about inspiring the future generations of scientists and hope to continue this throughout her scientific career. She is currently interested in positions located within the Greater Cincinnati, OH area within Science Industry and/or Science Communication.
