About Angela Southey

As my passion and expertise lies in the Indoor Air Quality field, I returned airmid healthgroup in December 2023, as Chief Technical Officer. With 15 years experience in air quality and product performance verification to date, I am determined to make a valuable contribution to the company. We have a new team of technicians, scientists and a climatic chamber engineer to steer us to the forefront of aerobiology testing of air cleaners, vacuum cleaners, other cleaning technologies and coatings. Key standards will include Ashrae 241 and 185.3. At the start of my career, I graduated from Dept. of Medicine and Therapeutics, UCD with a PhD in lung fibrosis, I then moved to Osaka in Japan to complete a postdoctorate in ulcerative colitis. Upon returning to Ireland, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Veterinary College, Dublin, investigating the feasibility of vaccinating badgers against tuberculosis (TB). I then went on to enhance my expertise in virology, first at the Irish Equine Centre (Kildare), then at Wyeth Biopharma (Grange Castle) and finally at Abbott Diagnostics (Sligo). In 2008, I took up the position of Technical Manager at airmid healthgroup, where I worked for 12 years initially. During that time, I contributed significantly to the establishment of the allergen, microbiology and virology laboratories and environmental test chambers. I provided the main technical input required for attaining ISO17025 accreditation for 2 ELISA test methods. While at airmid, I also established aerobiology techniques for evaluating a wide range of air/surface cleaning technologies and coatings designed to mitigate biological pollutants (allergens, micro-organisms, VOCs) from indoor spaces. In 2020, I left airmid to join Sonitus Systems, as Quality Manager/Senior Air Quality Scientist. I gained expertise in the manufacture and calibration of ambient airborne particulate monitoring systems, thus further enhancing my expertise in air quality. While working there, I developed and implemented a QMS in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and achieved MCERTs certification of the Sonitus Systems' Dustsens cloud-based airborne particulate monitor. I also played a key role in setting up the dust monitor calibration laboratory and assisted in designing and qualifying the dust test rig, purpose-built for verification of cloud-based ambient airborne particulate monitoring instruments which are used in the construction, environment and government sectors worldwide.
