About Angeline Tan

My passion for the arts is reflected in my choice of study and vocation in the creative field over the years. With my advertising, entrepreneurial experience and arts background, I was hired as a Gallery Manager to manage Artfolio Gallery, a commercial gallery specialising in modern and contemporary Southeast Asian Art from 2005 to 2010. My job responsibilities entailed the smooth operation of the gallery, managing sales and marketing and promotion of the gallery through exhibitions. I also took charge in business development of the gallery, positioned the gallery’s artistic vision, seeking for new artists and selected the genre of artworks presented. Through these experiences, it developed my negotiation skill and broadened my knowledge in Singapore’s visual arts sector. Being a Singaporean, I was naturally drawn to local themes, arts and culture; and that ignited my fervent support for local artists. The works of local artists are works that Singaporeans can resonate with for both young and old, plays a vital role in the development of the Singapore art landscape. I believe works by local artists can help to build, develop and strengthen our unique Singaporean identity. My support for local and Southeast Asian artists remained with me after moving to Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Art Galleries Branch in 2011. I was tasked to manage visual arts exhibitions and events from point of implementation to completion. In 2017 and 2019, I was given the opportunity to manage double-bill exhibitions and fringe programmes spearheaded by Tang Da Wu at NAFA. I also supported Institute of Southeast Asian Art (ISEAA), NAFA’s academic faculty and inter-departments in their exhibitions for over ten years. With the exposure of diverse art forms, I continue to develop my exhibition and project management skills. As my interest in the arts sector continues to deepen, it inspired me to undertake a Postgraduate Masters in Museum Studies with the University of Leicester in 2017. With the knowledge that I have acquired in my studies, I was able to broaden my scope in the area of Collections Management, which includes curatorial. With my familiarity and experience in managing visual arts exhibitions and events, the ability to cultivate and manage relationships with artists and effective communications and interpersonal skills working with people locally and overseas, it is my passion to continue to contribute to Singapore’s arts and culture sector.
