I have a long-range vision for any project, assignment, or career that I undertake. I can manage the details, work well with a team and develop strategies to fruition with my creativity, vision and passion for success. These qualities have served me well in most career endeavors, but not in all. I carry lessons from failures into future strategies to ensure success. I attribute my greatest successes to my inquisitive nature, as a scientist, understanding reality and exploration of practical opportunities to recreate and reinvent.I began my career in marketing and public policy at a government consulting firm. As a member of a four-person team, we helped grow the firm from $7m to $150m in ten years. I wore many hats developing creative materials, writing proposals, preparing research, and developing strategies. As a marketing manager at a non-profit school, I developed grassroots campaigns with a budget less than $20k that grew school admissions by 30% and generated market awareness. As a SEO marketing strategist at a forestry data company, I exceeded our bounce rate reduction goal for our corporate web page in 12 months by reducing it to 52%(our goal being 58% in 12 months). As a teacher, I began as a K-8 substitute teacher and grew into a full-time, licensed K-6 STEM teacher. In a challenged school, I helped students improve their literacy of science and math by raising their math end-of-school tests by 2 points for 72% of the students in my class. As I enter my marine science career, I created a marine predator conservation website for a North Carolina marine predator, the Atlantic spiny dogfish, Squalus acanthias, https://sites.google.com/view/atlanticspinydogfishactionplan/home and submitted an Essential Fish Habitat report to NOAA for the conservation of the spiny dogfish in North Carolina. My graduate thesis evaluated water quality and species over a 20 year period in Wilson Bay, Jacksonville, NC. I enjoy the ocean, and when I moved near the beach, I saw the opportunity to apply my creative problem solving skills to research new opportunities. I am conducting independent research on juvenile sharks for my local area of Onslow County. It has afforded me the chance to connect with local anglers, the general public, and colleagues, as well as, conduct both field and desk research on over 20 local shark species. It is my hope to make a positive and lasting impact for our community and marine ecosystem and continue working with people, analyzing trends and understanding needs to determine creative solutions.
