When I was a little girl (up until the day I graduated college with an Art Ed degree) my mom would tell me, “Angie, you’re going to grow up and be in sales. I just know it. ” Oh! Hearing her say that used to make me so mad! “Disgusting," I thought."What a slam. I can’t believe my own mother is telling me this. Does she think I’m fake and conniving?” I’ve always been most proud of myself for being the exact opposite. Well, cut to the chase – my mom was right about me landing in sales. And, here’s a secret – I like it. As it turns out, good sales reps are upfront, honest, and they really care—about the people, about the details, about the problem they're solving. After so many years of avoiding the profession, here are the top 3 reasons I love my job: 3.) I like sales because of the people. Although my schedule changes every day, the two constants are that I'm working with people and meeting new people. I love that. 2.) Because most people avoid sales reps, you have to work hard to get yourself in the door. And by working hard, I mean literally putting in a ton of hours, but also being creative. I like the challenge. 1.) Building solid relationships takes time and a great deal of hard work, but that’s why they’re so rewarding. Nothing beats calling on someone for months (or years) and then months (or years) later hearing them say, “Angie, I don’t know what I’d do without you. Thank you.” I like helping people. In short – I’m in it for the partnerships.
