About Aniceto Masferrer

Aniceto Masferrer is Professor of Legal History at the University of Valencia. He has been educated in Germany (Max-Planck Institute for the History of European Law, Frankfurt/M), United Kingdom (University of Cambridge) and United States (Harvard, George Washington and Louisiana State Universities). He has published around thirty books and more than a hundred chapters/articles of academic content. He is editor of the journal GLOSSAE. European Journal of Legal History, director of the Institute for Social, Political and Legal Studies, former president of the European Society for Comparative Legal History, and A.C of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation. He is vice-president of the Universitas Foundation, from which he co-founded "Free and from where he coordinates the Social and Interdisciplinary Studies Group (GESI). He writes opinion articles in the press (ABC, El Mundo and Las Provincias), and has published four popular books in Spanish: For a new political culture (Catarata, 2019); Guidebook of ethics for modern life (EDAF, 2020); Euthanasia in Spain. Perspectives from vulnerability (Rialp, 2021); Freedom and public ethics. Why thinking critically is key to saving democracy (Almuzara, 2022). Aniceto Masferrer es catedrático de Historia del Derecho en la Universitat de València. Se ha formado en Alemania (Instituto Max-Planck de Historia del Derecho europeo, Frankfurt/M), Reino Unido (Universidad de Cambridge) y Estados Unidos (universidades de Harvard, George Washington y Louisiana State). Ha publicado alrededor de una treintena de libros y más de un centenar de capítulos/artículos de contenido académico. Es editor de la revista GLOSSAE. European Journal of Legal History, director del Instituto de Estudios Sociales, Políticos y Jurídicos, expresidente de la European Society for Comparative Legal History, y A.C de la Real Academia de Jurisprudencia y Legislación. Es vicepresidente de la Fundación Universitas, desde la que cofundó "Free y desde donde coordina el Grupo de Estudios Sociales e Interdisciplinares (GESI). Escribe artículos de opinión en prensa (ABC, El Mundo y Las Provincias), y ha publicado cuatro libros de divulgación: Para una nueva cultura política (Catarata, 2019); Manual de ética para la vida moderna (EDAF, 2020); La eutanasia en España. Perspectivas desde la vulnerabilidad (Rialp, 2021), Libertad y ética pública. Por qué pensar críticamente es clave para salvar la democracia (Almuzara, 2022).
