About Ankush Chandra

Ankush Chandra is a PGY-6 (Chief) Neurosurgery Resident at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston who is interested in becoming a neurosurgeon-scientist in neurosurgical-oncology. Ankush is passionate about advancing knowledge within neurosurgery through high-quality basic science and clinical research. Currently, in addition to his clinical duties, Ankush is working as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Hui-Wen Lo's laboratory. He is a recipient of the prestigious NIH NINDS R25/UE5 grant that is supporting his current research in the Lo laboratory investigating novel targeted therapies for glioblastoma. During 2017-2018, he was awarded the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) research fellowship to conduct full-time translational and basic science research for 1 year in the laboratory of Dr. Manish K. Aghi at the Department of Neurological Surgery at UCSF, where Ankush has been conducting both clinical and basic science research since 2015. Ankush has received numerous grants and awards for research in the field of organized neurosurgery. He has published extensively and has presented his work at multiple national conferences. Ankush is also a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), AANS/CNS Tumor Section, Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO), American Medical Association (AMA). He is enthusiastic about engaging with and broadening the impact of organized neurosurgery within the field of medicine. More recently, Ankush undertook the role of Chief Academic Officer at Med School Mentor to pursue his passion for academic development and mentorship.
