About Ann Keefer

I have worked in proofreading and copy editing for the past fifteen years, helping academics and fiction writers to make their written communication more compelling and aligned with audience needs. My most recent experience includes co-authoring, fact-checking and editing chapters on disability culture and Disability Studies for the textbook Disability: A Human Services Approach, proofreading, copyediting and research for a chapter of the Black Archives book Under the Lake/ Before the Flood (a series focused on analysis of selected Dr. Who episodes), and proofreading, copy editing and research for the academic article "A Synontology of Ableism"(forthcoming). Previous work has included proofreading, copy editing snd developmental editing for international students in the Art History Program at the University at Buffalo (SUNY), students in Journalism and Education at University at Buffalo, and materials for the nursing program at the University at Buffalo. I also work closely with students at Jefferson University and Saint Joseph's University, providing written and verbal feedback on drafts of course papers. I believe that good proofreading and copyediting are invisible - if I am doing my job correctly, readers never notice. Instead, they are able to better appreciate the ideas, concepts, arguments and sources used by my clients in both academic and fiction writing. Even when I am reading for pleasure, I am proofreading.
