About Ann Liebeck
Ann Liebeck studied for a BA in music at St Hugh's College Oxford University, followed by an M.Mus at the University of Surrey where she wrote a thesis on Francis Poulenc's song settings of Surrealist poets Paul Eluard and Guillaume Apollinaire. She then studied as an opera singer at the Royal College of Music where she gained her ARCM. She attended Masterclasses at the Britten Pears School Aldeburgh and Salzburg Mozarteum. She was awarded many prizes for singing while at RCM, reached the finals of all the major UK song competitions, Ferrier, Royal Overseas, and was awarded Countess of Munster Scholarship and the Hamburg Shakespeare Prize Bursery by Dame Gwyneth Jones. This took her to the Vienna State Opera where she began her 30 year career singing the Queen of the Night at Vienna Volksoper, Pittsburgh Opera USA, Prague National Theatre, Braunschweig Staatstheater,ENO, State Opera Prague and Brno. Her roles range from lyric coloratura soprano (Konstanze, Lucia, Norina, Zerbinetta,Gilda, Violetta,to most recently lyric/dramatic repertoire with Musetta, Countess-Figaro, Rusalka, Salome, Donna Anna, Elettra and Tosca. She has performed in all major concert halls in London in repertoire ranging from Messiah, notably with Ross Pople and the London Festival Orchestra with whom she recorded both Messiah and Carmina Burana for Naxos and Carmen BMG Arte Nova, to Verdi Requiem, with Sir Colin Davis and to contemporary composers John Tavener and Paul Barker-Songs for Sylvia. She has a vast song repertoire in English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Czech. She speaks French, German, Italian and most recently Spanish. She is much involved in Dance Theatre and performed Brahms Liebeslieder Valzer with the renowned Mark Morris Dance Company in Vienna, Rambert Dance on Riverside Stage in London and has been touring her own show Violetta’s Last Tango in major theatres in London since 2014.She still takes regular dance classes, ballet, contemporary and tango.
