I am a mother of 3 wonderful children one of which has Cerebral Palsy and unfortunately I have learned the hard way that you have to be prepared to fight for your child to get medical supports, Educational Supports that should be offered automatically but unfortunately this does not happen In Ireland. So this gave me the drive to become a voice and advocate for disability and carers for the past 21 years. 12 years ago I came together with a group of parents and we established the Clare Crusaders Clinic. I have managed the Clinic on a voluntary basis ever since. Employing 6 full time and 2 Part time staff. The Clinic has been run without any government funding resulting in our need to raise per year to maintain our current level of services. Every penny of which goes back to providing services to our Children. My work with the Clare Crusaders Children’s Clinic brings me into constant contact with numerous people who are really suffering from all the cutbacks in the recent budgets and it is great to be in a position to help and support these people by advising and guiding them to the areas of supports and interventions they might need. I have been honored with many awards for my work over the years including Clare Person of the Year 2013. The Clare Champion person of the year. RSVP person of the Year. Pride of Place special achievement award. Ulster bank special achievement award.
