Background

About Ann Patten

I am originally from New York but I’ve been living in Ireland for many years and have dual citizenship. I am a lecturer at the Dublin Business School, where I teach composition studies, literature, interdisciplinary modules, as well as professional writing and communication skills. I am also available for freelance writing, research and communication projects. I have over ten years' experience working with students and professionals who would like to hone their communication skills and materials. I provided these services to multinational companies based in Dublin through Talk Business Ltd, a company I founded and served as director for from Oct 2002 to Dec 2008. Previously, I taught British and American literature at University of Dublin, Trinity College. This was mostly in small group tutorials, but I also delivered several Masters level seminars in American Economic Fiction, an area that drew on my previous experience in finance. Earlier in my career, I worked for Martello Media, a company that develops digital multimedia projects for museums and cultural heritage sites in Ireland and the UK. I worked on the Yeats Exhibition at the National Library of Ireland, which won the 2006 Interpret Britain and Ireland Award. More recently, I’ve become interested in environmental humanities and urban regeneration. Last year, I worked with local residents and members of the Northwest Inner City Network to develop proposals for the regeneration of O’Devaney Gardens in Dublin. From May 2011 to Jan 2014 I was Associate Editor of the Edith Wharton Review. I’ve published several articles, a book chapter, book reviews and served as a peer reviewer for the Edith Wharton Review, The Irish Journal of Gothic and Horror, and the Irish Journal of American Studies. Before going into academia, I worked in New York, first in banking for National Westminster Bank PLC, and then in fundraising for The Children’s Aid Society.
