About Ann Rust

My passion for rural medicine comes from growing up in a small town in North Idaho with a father who practiced into his early 80's. From the start of my career, I have held administrative roles in healthcare facilities and helped develop programs still up and running today. I was the medical director and program developer for Oregon's first nationally accredited breast center. I helped establish Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) Transition To Practice Surgical Fellowship, which trains surgeons going into rural settings. I serve as a diplomate for the American Board of Surgery and am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. I have had LEAN training and have a strong background in quality management, and I serve on the quality counsel. I am currently taking the facility's Trauma Surgery program through state accreditation. Additionally, the Robotic Surgery program through the process to become a nationally designated Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. As a clinician, I have trained surgery residents, medical students, and physician assistant students from OHSU, WSU School of Medicine, UW School of Medicine and Allied Health, and Heritage University. I have received the Samuel R. Goldstein Leadership Award, Patients' Choice Awards, and Compassionate Doctor Recognition awards.
