About Anna Ah Sam

On faculty at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM), Dr. Ah Sam coordinates research, evaluation, and assessment activities for student service programs that implement the University’s strategic goals of access and diversity. She has presented and published widely in the areas of diversity and evaluation and has over 20 years of experience as a grant writer, evaluator, and researcher. Since her tenure at UHM, she has successfully garnered over $50 million in grant funding, conducted more than 30 presentations at professional conferences, and evaluated more than 20 multi-year, medium-to large-scale educational and training projects. In addition to her faculty responsibilities, Anna serves as an evaluation and grantwriting consultant to a variety of community-based organizations in Hawai'i and other academic departments at the University. Her research interests include early childhood education, afterschool programming for at-risk youth, culture-based education and evaluation, and college student access and success for underrepresented students. Prior to her faculty appointment, Anna coordinated and evaluated health and educational research and training projects in Hawai`i and the U.S. Pacific jurisdictions, including American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, and the Marshall Islands.
