About Anna Becker

I am a UC Berkeley graduate with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies. My unique, self-designed degree allowed a strong focus on Contemporary Refugee and Migration Studies, drawing from an array of relevant disciplines (including but not limited to; legal studies, sociology, history, and public health). My degree entailed heavy research, which I have utilized as a method for refugee and immigrant advocacy. My past research contributions have highlighted the evident discrepancies in the accessibility and availability of legal and health resources for immigrant communities and the evolution of a public-private structured US refugee resettlement program in Bay Area Counties. For example, my senior thesis investigated the impacts of an evolving public-private structured refugee resettlement program on Afghan Refugee resettlement efforts in Alameda County following the US withdrawal from Kabul in 2021. My findings highlighted the subsequent abdication of responsibility by the US and the new horizon of privately organized refugee resettlement programming. My professional experiences include five years of non-profit administration and program support roles at organizations related to refugee protection and advocacy. I have a unique global perspective from working in European organizations, international Humanitarian work, and having lived in Kenya, the UK, the USA, and Switzerland. I am pursuing roles that demonstrate the continuation of my refugee and immigrant advocacy work and allow for the growth and application of my skillset (research, communication, project administration, client services, and non-profit administration). I hope to pursue an M.A. or J.D. in refugee and immigration law, refugee protection, or Urbanism.
