About Anna Calvo

Anna is an engaged and driven student at Washington University in St. Louis, currently pursuing her degree at the College of Arts and Sciences. With a strong interest in Global Studies and current events, Anna values cultivating meaningful change and contributing to her community. Before attending Washington University, Anna attended Crosstown High, a public charter school in Memphis and an XQ School. During her time there, she was actively involved and served as a student representative on the school’s Board, bridging the gap between student government and administration. This past summer, Anna worked at Emerson Collective for XQ Institute. As a Schools and Systems intern, she supported the development of a Youth Advocacy Guide to center student voice in advancing policy change, and helped curate programming for the XQ Student Advisory Council. Anna’s travel experiences have deepened her understanding of diverse cultures and fueled her passion for using photography to capture and share contemporary global issues. She further expanded her knowledge by attending the Governor’s School for International Studies, and she continues photography as a Staff Photographer for Student Life, Washington University's student-run newspaper.
