About Anna Coetzee

Trained as a creative professional, disciplined and with an eye for detail, facility in design, and good writing skills, an empathetic disposition and interest in people inspired me to diversify my skills into the field of higher education. Two specialist qualifications in adult education allowed me entry to a career in educational technology at the University of Johannesburg. Teaching first year students provided me with insight into the practicalities and challenges they faced in optimising these technologies for their learning,as well as contextual issues around first year student performance and adjustment to University life, the subject of my MEd degree in Computer-based Education with a focus on engagement and experiences of computer-illiterate first year students. I am at present writing a research article based on my findings, and presently investigating a PhD that will make a difference to the learning experiences of students in simple but effective ways, based on authentic criteria and real student needs. I am involved in training teachers in Soweto basic computer skills, and I am currently also redefining my fine art and illustration creative skills as a parallel endeavour.
