About Anna Cohenmiller

Hi there! I'm a transformational educational leader and arts-based researcher with over 20 years of experience in higher education. My passion is to empower and connect people through creating systems valuing everyone and addressing key topics of equity, inclusion, social justice, environmental justice and economic justice. I have secured over $1.5 million USD in grant funding, collaborating with colleagues globally, including Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, and in online spaces. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege to work with incredible teams and teachers, such as being recruited to Kazakhstan to build an English-language premiere research university (now listed in Times Higher Education, with the Grad School of Education in the top 200!). I'm proud to have taught, mentored, and/or supervised over 200 Master's and doctoral students throughout my career to date, during which time I have won multiple awards for inclusive and innovative teaching. I am Full Professor at PLUS: Centre for Professional Development and Learning, Nord University (Norway), where I emphasize empowering and building capacity around research-based best practices in pedagogy and research, enhancing digitalization, transdisciplinary collaboration, and internationalization through leadership across internal/ external partners, grant-funded projects, and with various organizations (e.g, Bodø2024; Center for Sami and Indigenous Research, TEDxBodø). I am also the Editor in Chief of the open-access, Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy. Along with my teaching, my writing focuses on creating accessible and inclusive approaches. One of my recent books,"Transformative Moments in Qualitative Research: Method, Theory, and Reflection" has been noted as a "must read" for all those interested in social justice. Prior to this, I wrote "Questions in Qualitative Social Justice Research in Multicultural Contexts"(with N. Boivin, Routledge), was selected for Outstanding Book from AERA Qualitative Research SIG. Working with an incredible international team, I was lead editor for the book,"Leading Change in Gender and Diversity in Higher Education from Margins to Mainstream," was awarded funding for open access scholarship. My forthcoming book,"Justice-Centered Mixed Methods Research"(with K. Grace, Guilford) is an exciting new step bringing together critical self-reflection into MMR approaches.
