https://anthropozik.fr/ My research focus on cultural circulations and appropriations in a globalized world, through rap and urban music in Africa. My PhD dissertation about the world of rap in Burkina Faso obtained an award (2019, Martine Aublet foundation) and is currently turned into a book manuscript. My new research expands on my first project by analysing the industrialization processes of urban music on the African continent. I am interested in different ways of selling (industry sector) and also buying music (consumer practices, identities, imaginaries) in different national contexts on the continent. The aim of this research is to dialogue with professionals of the music industry to enrich the data already available (statistics, big data, etc.) through qualitative research methods : long-term immersion, participant-observation, interviews, cross-referencing, “thick descriptions” (Geertz, 1973). Furthermore, I have started to experiment with audio-visual tools to interrogate the relationship between visibility, the gaze and image(s), as well as to widen the audiences of anthropological studies. The collection, analysis and dissemination of “thick data” (Wang, 2019) is in compliance with a code of research ethics (respect for the integrity of individuals, protection of personal and professional information, principle of anonymisation) ensuring the quality of research and protecting the researcher as well as the individuals and companies with which s/he collaborates.
