About Anna Lingley

All of my life I have been fascinated and captivated by learning how things work. I long to understand not just the how but the why. This curiosity led me to pursue my Bachelor of Science degree at the University of New Brunswick. I am driven by the desire to learn and to constantly improve. Specifically, I am interested in learning about the human body and why certain things occur. As well as a scientist though, I am an empath. My interest in human anatomy and physiology is founded on the want to help others in any way possible. Because of this, I have become involved in many groups to better serve my community. I was an Executive Student Councillor at my high school, founded and ran a program designed to help younger students get involved in leadership, chaired a Mental Wellness week, and was a member of the Emergency Response Team. Here at UNB, I am involved on the executive committee of the UNB Mental Health Association and with UNB Spring, an organization that pairs students with special needs children. All of these experiences have shaped me and led me to where I am today. I believe that compassion, community-mindedness, and hard work are among the most important values, and try to incorporate those qualities into my actions and decisions every day. We all have the power to make the world a better place but only if we are willing to be lifelong learners and work as a team. Someday, my goal is to use these qualities to pursue my dream career as a pediatric physician. For now, I am working on honing these skills through my work with the Mental Health Association, volunteer work with the homeless shelter and local nursing homes, and my job as a community pharmacy assistant. I also continue to actively engage in learning and excel in classes with a high GPA. My hope is that my hard work will continue to serve me well as it has in the past when I was honored with the Kiwanis Canada scholarship for community service.
