About Anna M.

I'm a former investment banker turned investigative journalist turned tech-curious business builder. I thrive on making information, technology and knowledge more accessible to everyone — and feel incredibly fortunate to do that as OpenAI’s APAC & Japan Strategy Lead. My path has been anything but traditional — guided by curiosity at every turn. I began my career on Goldman Sachs’s equity trading floor in Tokyo, which led me to New York City, where I pitched investment ideas to Wall Street titans and helped lead IPOs. I spent nearly two decades in finance — primarily at Goldman Sachs — working across markets and clients in roles spanning from derivative trading, equity sales, fundraising, business development, and investigative research for investment teams. Later, I pivoted to journalism with a focus on investigative reporting, writing for The Wall Street Journal and Financial Times in New York on stories about money, power, and people. I reported across global markets for diverse audiences in print, audio, and live broadcast, often exploring the intersection of finance, policy, and human impact. I am grateful to have written a front-page story for The Wall Street Journal on the state of maternal mental healthcare in the U.S. Now, I’m embarking on a new chapter: help shape OpenAI’s strategy across Asia to ensure artificial intelligence serves and empowers people everywhere. I hope to leverage my multifaceted background in finance and storytelling, first by listening and learning. Being both Japanese and American, and fluent in both English and Japanese, I bring a cross-cultural lens to everything I do. I’m a connector, writer, speaker, and builder. Above all, I’m a tenacious doer with a track record of inclusive leadership, bold thinking, and a deep commitment to building a more equitable world.
