About Anna Parma

A graduate from the University of Colorado Boulder in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology: the study of the interconnectedness of organisms in various ecosystems, how humans impact these natural systems and how to protect nature while also maintaining human needs for natural resources. During my studies, I decided to take advantage of my university's study abroad opportunities. I studied Tropical Ecology and Conservation in Costa Rica. I also studied Sustainability and Environmental Policy in Australia. Both programs have given me incomparable, hands-on learning experiences in the field of conservation biology and sustainability. Out of these travel-study opportunities, I've developed a strong sense of self reliance and a unique, ecological worldview. I have a deep passion for the natural world and sustainable living. I'm fascinated by plants, especially tropicals. I'm constantly taking courses/interning in relation to plant science, permaculture and ecological agriculture. I completed a course at Wild Willow Farm in small scale regenerative farming, took a course in hydroponics from Cal Poly Pomona and have also lived and worked on various ecological farms in the tropics. Another deep passion of mine is healthy living, specifically holistic nutrition and fitness. I have attained my NASM personal training certification. I am a certified surf instructor through San Diego Lifeguards. Worked as a surf instructor last summer at Pacific Surf School. I just moved back to San Diego. Was living and working at a restaurant in Gold Coast, Australia on a working holiday visa for 4 months. Currently, I work at La Jolla Kayak as a kayak snorkel tour guide. I’m an outreach assistant for Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s environmental project called the Smartfin. I also teach private surf lessons, walk dogs and pet sit on the side. Hobbies: surfing, hiking, camping, photography/videography, scuba diving, yoga, gardening, playing guitar, drumming and traveling.
