About Anna Pilz

I am a research development manager. With a background in interdisciplinary research that combines literary criticism with environmental history and cultural geography, I continue to be active as an independent researcher working in the areas of coastal studies, arboreal humanities, and women's literary history. Previous to my IAD appointment, I was Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow in the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures at the University of Edinburgh (2020-2022) with a 3-month secondment at the Moore Institute, National University of Ireland, Galway (March-May 2022). This fellowship enabled me to begin an investigation into a rich archive of Romantic-era travel writing about Ireland and Scotland’s Atlantic coasts that has resulted in a series of forthcoming publications. Before I turned my attention to coastal environments, I was supported via research fellowships at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh, a Carson Fellowship at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society at LMU Munich, and an Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship at University College Cork to explore narratives of deforestation in Irish writing. My doctoral research focused on the Irish playwright Lady Augusta Gregory and her national and international audiences, resulting in a series of book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles.
