About Anna Rumjahn

PhD student in Educational Philosophy and Theory at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver BC. Exploring contemplative education, cultivation of self and their implications for teaching praxis. My research interests include the philosophy of theories and practices in contemplative inquiry, with a focus on Stoicism and Daoism. These wisdom traditions guide my own contemplative practice, teaching pedagogy and re/animation of self, others and the more-than-human world. My Master of Education dissertation explored Stoic philosophical exercises as a contemplative practice and how this influenced early career teacher well-being. Aspiring to reframe education through holistic ways of being and becoming. I am committed to practicing engaged mindfulness whereby the process of self-actualization enables me to connect more profoundly with students, colleagues and the wider community. My pedagogical practices encompass contemplative inquiry, culturally responsive teaching and cultivation of self to facilitate compassion and awareness. Attending to the human dimension will allow educators to support students in meaningful and sustainable ways. I execute consistent distinction and professionalism underpinned by an exceptional mix of capability, creativity and care.
