About Anna Slade

First Class MChem GraduateA highlight of my degree was spending the majority of my final year at the CP2M laboratory in Villeurbanne, France, where I undertook a 6-month research project on the synthesis, characterisation, and catalytic applications of colloidal palladium and platinum nanoparticles. A significant personal motivation for the project was reducing the environmental impact of C-C coupling and hydrosilylation reactions in the chemical industry. Usage and toxic waste production of expensive palladium and platinum could be reduced by replacing the metal complex catalysts currently used in industry with these highly active nanoparticles. Furthermore, a portion of the project was devoted to the lab-scale transferral of colloidal nanoparticle synthesis from stir-tank to continuous flow reactors, which show great promise with respect to more efficient resource usage and scalability. I am soon to move into the intellectual property sector, in which I will be able to wield and expand on my chemistry knowledge in a dynamic and academically stimulating environment, learning how to protect and defend new and exciting chemical technology which is driving innovation globally. I also hope to have future opportunities to develop my language skills further.
