About Anna Snapp

I am an actor, writer, teacher, and mental health advocate based in NYC. I have a deep passion for creating art for social change and the intersection of mental health advocacy & medical education and the arts. Part of my mission as an artist has been to be a part of the movement to de-stigmatize mental illness and invisible illnesses through the performing of my autobiographical one-woman show, I FOUND THAT THE SUN WILL RISE TOMORROW, a show about facing trauma and living with chronic illnesses that affect the body and mind, which has been showcased in Maryland, DC, Edinburgh, NYC, and virtually. My experience performing for the medical and mental health communities led to the creation of my second solo show, IT'S NOT ABOUT THE DAMN FOOD, a verbatim theatre piece based on interviews with people who have battled an eating disorder (a short teaser/premiere for Northwell Health was in May 2021 and premiered fully at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine in March 2022. ACTOR- In 2019, I graduated from the two-year acting conservatory, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Previously I studied at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and Temple University in Philadelphia. I use the acting skills I learned at these institutions to help guide me through life and even non-performing work. I believe the arts are incredibly powerful in teaching empathy, self-discovery and self-reflection, and personal growth and potential. WRITER- I wrote my autobiographical show, I FOUND THAT THE SUN WILL RISE TOMORROW back in 2014/2015, and have workshopped it since at Lighthouse Writers Workshop in Denver with playwright and screenwriter Halley Feiffer. I also created my second one-woman show, IT'S NOT ABOUT THE DAMN FOOD, and was previously a freelance comedy writer at LadySpike Media! MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY- My dreams for being a mental health advocate reach far beyond the performing of my one-woman shows. I am deeply interested in how I can use my twenty plus years of performance experience in working with organizations, hospitals, and medical schools to promote empathy and the patient's perspective through the less of mental health awareness. I am a graduate of Howie the Harp's peer specialist training boot camp and a certified Peer Counselor. CURRENTLY- I am working full-time at Stream by AlphaSense on their Expert Experience Team, and pursue acting, writing, facilitation, and workshopping opportunities at the same time.
