About Anna Soer

After having obtained my BA in English Language, Literature and Civilisation (Bordeaux, France), I enrolled in a Pre-master's programme at Radboud University (Nijmegen, Netherlands) in Human Geography which was followed up with a MSc in Human Geography, specialized in Conflict, Territories and Identities, from which I graduated Cum Laude. I am currently a PhD candidate at the University of Ottawa in Political science since 2020. My research project - under the supervision of Prof. Ryan Katz-Rosene - focusses on the governance of renewable energy development in Nunavut, Canada, and Greenland, including territorial-federal government relations, cross-sector collaborations, community engagement and gender dynamics. I also serve as faculty lecturer at McGill University's School of Continuing Studies and teach public administration to a wide array of professionals from Indigenous organisations and corporations in Québec. My wider research interests include renewable and non-renewable resource development (including offshore) and Indigenous governance, gender and colonial dynamics, within an interdisciplinary outlook combining human geography, history, and political science. Ethnographic research methods also strongly inform the ways I engage in fieldwork which includes research ethics and a wider discussion on intellectual property. While I primarily focus on the Arctic, my work also aims to open up Arctic research to cross-regional comparative perspectives outside of polar frames. My competences lie in analytical skills ranging from strategic and critical thinking, to knowledge dissemination and project management. With my background in conflict studies and political science, as well as experiences in research on First Nations' transparent governance strategies and grant applications, I am passionate in applying my core competencies to address challenges, and continue engaging in research, knowledge dissemination and projects development both in Canada and the European North.
