About Anna Staines

Specialist in carbon materials, polymer chemistry, surface chemistry, colloidal chemistry and hybrid materials. PhD thesis:"Surface modification of carbon fibers - Improvement of the dissipative properties of carbon fiber reinforced plastics". My doctoral thesis was an interdisciplinary research project between the department of chemistry and the faculty of mechanical engineering. Prof. Dr. Bremser, head of the working group "Coatings, Materials & Polymers", and Prof. Dr. Tröster, head of the chair "Automotive Lightweight Construction", were my mentors. My general responsibilities during my time as a scientist at the University of Paderborn included teaching and the application, management and organization of research projects. I worked on several research projects from different fields, including surface chemistry, colloidal chemistry, hybrid materials and carbon fibers. For my master studies in chemistry I attended the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. My advanced level subjects were advanced materials, environmental chemistry, fuel cell technology, nanotechnology and nanobiophysical methods. During my master thesis in physical chemistry I focused on colloidal chemistry and new HPLC technologies (SERS). I spent a semester abroad at the University of Waterloo in Canada. During this time I was able to improve my language skills drastically. Additionally, I worked on a research project in inorganic solid state chemistry. I received my bachelor's degree in chemistry at the University of Paderborn. During my bachelor thesis in inorganic chemistry I worked on the synthesis of mesoporous carbon.
