About Anna Tavano

Anna joined HSBC in 2018 as Head of Global Banking Italy and has since held roles of increasing responsibility. In 2021, she was appointed Co-Head of Global Banking Continental Europe, and subsequently became sole Head of Global Banking CE in 2024 and Head of Banking Continental Europe in February 2025. Anna began her career in 1996 and brings 29 years of experience in the financial industry. She started at Citigroup in London in 1997. Since she worked in the Fixed Income – Capital Markets division heading the origination and execution team for a wide range of structured finance and principal finance transactions for financial institutions, corporates and central governments in Southern Europe. She later became Managing Director in the Corporate and Investment Banking Division, and served as Vice Chairman of the Corporate Bank in Italy and Head of the Public Sector, managing strategic relationships with major corporates and public institutions. Anna also served as Director General in the Italian public sector, where, in her final role, she led the Infrastructure and Public Transportation Department of the Lombardy Region, managing a team of over 140 people and was a board member of Infrastrutture Lombarde. Anna holds a degree in Economics from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” where she graduated with highest honours (110/110 cum laude), and has completed executive education programs, including the Leadership Through Awareness and Practice Programme (LEAP) and the Business Sustainability Programme at INSEAD. She also participated in the inaugural “In the Boardroom”, a one-year board-readiness programme for top women executives sponsored by ValoreD and GE Capital, and attended “The CEO School”, which trained a selected group of women to become future CEOs. Deeply committed to supporting women’s careers and promoting broader diversity and inclusion in the financial and corporate sectors, Anna is also a Special Friend of UNHCR, the United Nations agency dedicated to protecting and assisting people fleeing conflict, persecution, and violence in over 130 countries around the world.
