About Anna Timchenko

I got my undergraduate degree in 2004 from St. Petersburg Mining University, specializing as a professional mining engineer. Following this, I pursued my graduate studies from 2004 to 2007, focusing on the challenge of underground water inflow at the Yakovlev High-Grade Iron Ores Deposit (Kursk Magnetic Anomaly, Russia). My work combined laboratory studies and field investigations, providing invaluable hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering. After completing my graduate degree in 2007, I worked in Russia, contributing to the design, construction, and operation of over sixty mining projects. My expertise included slope stability analysis for open-pit mines, designing dewatering systems, and conducting field and laboratory tests to analyze geotechnical soil parameters for foundation design as part of the “Foundation Group.” My consulting roles involved applying geotechnical principles to stabilize slopes in open pits, waste dumps, and roads. Additionally, I conducted calculations for water flow into open pits and underground mines, oversaw engineering-geological surveys, managed underground water extraction, and open-pit slope stability checks. In civil engineering, my work included performing pressuremeter tests for foundation designs of major enrichment plant buildings in northern Russia and designing water supply systems for apartment complexes in Saint Petersburg. As a graduate student at Texas A&M University, I was actively involved in running the Soil Erosion Laboratory, working on projects related to onshore and offshore structures. At Texas A&M University I conducted my research under the supervision of Professor Jean-Louis Briaud, gaining advanced insights into soil mechanics and erosion processes.
