About Anna Zumbo

Anna Zumbo Organizational Strengthening & Community Development Passionate about political science and the evolution of cultural processes, I work in Italy, Francophone Africa, and Central America in the fields of community development and organizational empowerment. As a consultant, facilitator, and trainer, I collaborate with public and private institutions to design and manage systemic and innovative interventions on poverty reduction, new welfare models, social cohesion, and local development. I focus on complex learning processes, organizational culture transformation, and the empowerment and mobilization of communities and territories. With a long-standing experience in the Italian and international Caritas network, I now design and facilitate complex learning journeys that support the transformation of educational and social practices, nurturing organizational cultures open to innovation and the co-creation of fertile territorial ecosystems for social change. I direct the Integrated Training School on Migration – “Cohesion, Innovation and Plural Societies” and coordinate the national program “Literacy is not teaching to repeat words, but to speak one’s own word”, a research, consultancy, and training initiative promoting critical pedagogies in migrant reception, literacy, and community organizing as levers for renewed local development. My work integrates ecological awareness, personal growth, and community empowerment, drawing inspiration from ecology and deep democracy to activate personal, systemic, and shared transformation processes. I help groups, movements, and organizations cultivate collective identities and “we-centered” rationalities that sustain meaningful and inclusive change. Through the Facilitated Self-Strengthening Approach, I support organizations in developing dynamic governance systems, generative conflict management, vision-driven co-design, consensus-based decision-making, and cross-sector collaboration. My intercultural experience informs the use of facilitation tools to address conflicts and social crises, fostering collective awareness, shared visions, and positive change. For over 20 years, I have practiced and promoted popular education and Paulo Freire’s pedagogy of liberation, integrating them into participatory training, consultancy, and evaluation processes that support cultural and social transformation. I also publish books, articles, and training materials on innovation, social inclusion, and critical pedagogies for community activation and mobilization.
