Background
About Annabel Park
I'm a filmmaker, political consultant, and activist known for creative activism, community organizing, and narrative strategy. My passion is to promote participatory democracy and social change with innovation and community building. I have made numerous TV and radio appearances and have been invited to speak throughout the U.S. and also in Europe and Asia. My writings have been published by CNN.com and the Washington Post. My 2016 Washington Post op-ed “I don’t like Hillary Clinton or the Democratic Party, I’m Voting for Them Anyway” was one of the most shared opinion pieces of the 2016 election. My activism has been featured by People, The Real News, CNN, NYT, Washington Post, Rachel Maddow, Washington Journal, and Newsweek. I've co-directed and co-produced: 9500 Liberty, a critically acclaimed documentary project about the culture war over immigration: Story of America, a documentary project exploring America’s division and documenting Rev William Barber’s Moral Monday movement in North Carolina. (in development as a feature film) In addition, I've helped create hundreds of short educational and advocacy videos on social media about political issues. I founded the Coffee Party, a grassroots organization promoting civil dialogue and democratic reforms, in response to the Tea Party in 2010. Since then, I have also launched several popular online communities: Main St Democrats, Bridge the Divide, America Welcomes Refugees, Libyans and Americans United for Peace and Friendship, and Facing Humanity. Although my personal and professional experiences have been various, I approach all my projects as a tenacious problem-solver. Currently, I'm obsessed with trying to figure out how organizations and campaigns can improve voter outreach to naturalized citizens/immigrant voters. To that end, I'm leading a data-based consultancy, Vital Voters, focused on advancing that goal. I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to Houston, TX, when I was nine years old with my family. I grew up working at a truck diner owned by my parents. With my three dogs, I live in Lost River, West Virginia.
