About Annabel Pianzin

I am highly interested in wildlife conservation, and environmental sustainability. I'm a dedicated, discipline, and hardworking individual. My passion is in wildlife research, and I believe there are many more things to be discovered on wildlife in the forest, and that we, humans, must learn to live together in harmony with other living beings as planet Earth belongs to all creatures. Annabel is a wildlife biologist, who specializes in the ecology of otters in Sabah, where it highlighted the importance of maintaining riparian reserves within oil-palm dominated landscapes for otter conservation. She obtained her Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Conservation Biology and Master of Science in Ecological Processes from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia. She has been involved in several wildlife surveys under Malaysian Nature Society Sabah Branch around Sabah, mainly focusing on bird surveys; and has authored some scientific papers on the ecology of otters. Since working with Wild Asia in February 2022, she has gained and expanded her knowledge in identifying HCVs and in spatial/GIS analysis through the projects she was involved in, i.e. HCV assessments for Wild Asia Group Scheme (WAGS) for Small Producers and external clients.
