About Anne Baasner

Since my first chemistry lesson in school, my decision to become chemist was made. During my bachelor's program in chemistry at the Technische Universität Dresden I gained first insight in battery research as a student research assistant by developing electrode coating processes. The topic of energy storage materials really caught my interest which is why I started working as research assistant at the Fraunhofer IWS. I synthesized battery materials and investigated their structure-property relationships. After finishing my master thesis at the Fraunhofer IWS on a synthesis of silicon carbon composites as anode material, I started my PhD in August 2016 and continued my work by scaling-up the synthesis and electrode processing of Si-C anodes and their evaluation in lithium-ion and lithium-sulfur cells. I was involved in several international research projects funded by the EU and the German government and demonstrated my presentation skills on project meetings and conferences in Germany and abroad. Fraunhofer is Europe’s leading application-oriented research organization. While developing and evaluating new battery materials the scalability and relevance for practical application is always focused. Since working at Fraunhofer I really appreciated and acquired this approach. In bilateral projects with industrial partners I proved my structured and solution-oriented working approaches. My positive attitude and motivation to grow and learn guided me through my doctorate. Currently, I nearly finished my PhD thesis and I am looking for new adventures in the field of battery development.
