About Anne Bailey

The Aleutians East Borough is a political subdivision of the State of Alaska, composed of five incorporated cities and one village administered by the tribal council. The six communities are Akutan, Cold Bay, False Pass, King Cove, Nelson Lagoon and Sand Point. The Borough is located on the western end of the Alaska Peninsula and the first islands of the Aleutian Chain. Borough boundaries encompass square miles of isolated, wild and beautiful land and sea from the Nelson lagoon area to Akutan Island. The population, according to the 2010 Census, is 3,141 residents, although during the summer months with the transient seafood industry worker, the population doubles. Commercial fishing and fish processing dominate the Borough's economy. Harbors and/or Docks are in every community and Cold Bay is home to the third largest runway in Alaska, which serves as the regional center for air transportation on the Alaska Peninsula and is an international hub for private aircraft. The Borough's primary responsibility is to support the schools in the area; however, the Borough also provides services that include planning; project management; capital project; fisheries support and tax collection.
