My background is in classical music, and my training as a musician has given me skills I find quite valuable as a developer. Breaking Down Problems As a musician, you have to break down complex pieces of music the same way you have to break down complex problems in software development. You learn to analyze patterns, and take the time to understand how things work "under the hood." Communicating Technical Concepts As an educator, I have learned to communicate technical concepts to the layperson in a way that is accessible and enjoyable. Developers must be able to explain their work to a non-technical audience to ensure that the customer's needs and business pain points are being addressed. Creating A Beautiful Product Ultimately, both music and development serve the purpose of creating a beautiful product for people to enjoy!
