About Anne Turner
Dr. Anne M. Turner is a Professor at the University of Washington (UW) with a joint appointment in the Department of Health Services, School of Public Health and the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education, School of Medicine. Her research expertise is in public health informatics research and training. She has been the PI for three R01 grant awards, an NLM funded grant entitled Improving Access to Multi-lingual Health Information through Machine Translation, an AHRQ funded grant entitled Addressing the Health Information Needs of Older Adults and more recently a National Institute on Aging grant investigating Decision-making in Older Adults with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (see Projects). Dr. Turner’s research focuses on improving the design of health information systems for the public health workforce and under represented populations. She is particularly interested in serving populations associated low health literacy including limited English proficiency and older adults. Dr. Turner is a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics. She is an active member of American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and serves as Chair of the AMIA Academic Forum. She served as the Vice Chair of the AMIA Scientific Program Committee in 2013-2014. She served as a member of the AMIA Accreditation Committee and the Public Health Informatics working group. Dr. Turner’s clinical background is in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology Oncology. She maintains board certification in Pediatrics. In addition to her research, Dr. Turner teaches Public Health and Informatics for the UW Biomedical Health Informatics (BHI) graduate program. She teaches and mentors graduate students in the development of innovative solutions to public and consumer health problems. She was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2013 and 2018.
