About Anne van Schothorst

When I started studying and working in journalism, my interest in the day to day concerns of people came to the foreground. During (local) interviews, the worries and interests of all different kinds of individuals became visible. My curiosity about the lives of people shifted to the more macro-side of society as well, which is why I also started studying sociology at Erasmus University. It is interesting to see how social initiatives and policies can affect people: both good and sometimes bad. I hope to play a role in sharing insight into the experience of citizens on the one hand, and the actual creating of (life-affecting) policies on the other. Next to that, I hope to keep seeing the persons behind research or a report, just like my work as a journalist: sitting on someone's couch, while listening to its owner. In the second year of sociology, I got invited for and accepted into the ESSB Honours Programme, a multidisciplinary extracurricular Program for around 25 students of the faculty. Here I get the chance to develop myself further in research, and next to that I can broaden my academic knowledge, with people from all over the world.
