About Annie Schmidt

Annie Schmidt has worked with wildfire response, resilient landscapes, and fire adapted communities for the past 20 years. Annie’s work on the ground with communities throughout Washington State, her experience in the volunteer fire service as well as time with both state and federal agencies has provided her with perspectives from multiple scales and throughout the fire cycle (before, during, and after wildfire). Annie is the author of numerous community-based tools for fire adaptation, including the recently released Fire Adapted Communities Pathways Tool, and is passionate about community resilience. Annie serves as an advisor to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group Wildland Urban Interface Mitigation Committee, holds the fire adapted communities seat on the Washington State Wildfire Advisory Committee, and contributes practitioner perspectives to a variety of active wildfire social science research projects. She currently serves as the staff co-lead for the congressionally chartered Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission. Prior to her work with the Commission, Annie was the Director of Policy and Partnership for the Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network.
