About Annika Schaefer

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and Counselling Therapist with The Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA), bring over 20 years of counselling experience into the therapy process, and am dedicated to provide meaningful therapeutic support to clients who present with diverse needs and issues including trauma, mood disruptions, grief and loss, and life transitions in a safe, empathic, and non-judgemental environment. Working through a person-centred lens with a focus on the whole individual, I strive to build strong therapeutic relationships which are foundational for client outcomes. I believe in respecting and honouring each client’s strengths, experiences, and individuality while encouraging movement towards promoting deeper insight, enhancing their sense of purpose, and diminishing symptoms to facilitate growth, healthier functioning, and healing through evidence-based strategies. Besides my strong emphasis on a holistic person-centred approach, I integrate other modalities such as Polyvagal Theory, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Flash Technique, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and mindfulness in the sessions depending on each client's individual needs and preferences.
