About Anthony Abate

My name is Anthony Abate and my dream goal is to be a Physicians' Assistant. I have a passion for caring for others and learning about the anatomy/physiology of the human body. I have been involved in sports such as basketball, soccer, football, track, and cross country since I was 4 years old. Within my athletic career, I took basketball the furthest where I competed professionally in the Philippines. From a very young age, whenever myself or a teammate got a bump, bruise, or injury I would instinctively conduct a self-diagnosis. I wanted to know mechanism of injury, what body feature was affected, and how do I treat it? This lead to my desire towards the field of medicine. At Elmira College I successfully earned a double-major in Biology and Biochemistry while being a member of the Tri-Beta Biology Honor Society, working three on campus jobs (Resident Assistant, Gold Key, Writing Center Tutor), contributing to over 100 hours of volunteer service to Arnot Ogden Medical Center, and I founded Upstate Hoops which is a mentoring program for the youth around the Elmira Area. I graduated cum-laude in 2019 with an overall 3.401 GPA. Currently I am a full-time EMT-B and Junior High Basketball Coach, and part-time substitute teacher. I am highly family-oriented and extremely self-motivated to reach my goals and work as hard as I can with any opportunity I can receive in order to make the most out it!
