About Anthony Anscombe

I love being a lawyer. It's a great career for the things I'm good at: talking, writing, and being nosey. I approach my job with three objectives: 1) turn up every day with the knowledge that I am in a service profession; 2) extend civility to all; and 3) work feels better with more cowbell. I've handled many kinds of work and feel at home with most any type of civil litigation, but the areas that I especially enjoy include: CLASS ACTION DEFENSE: Class litigation almost always presents clients with significant financial and reputational risks. Fortunately, defendants have many opportunities to defeat these claims. The intellectual challenge of class litigation is finding a way to explain to the court how the diversity of experience and interest among class members renders it impractical to resolve legal rights through representative proof. Over the years, I have defended companies in many industry sectors, but my work has concentrated on food, drug, medical device, cosmetic, automotive, and retail industries. FOOD INDUSTRY: Over the years, I have done a lot of work for food companies, and have become very familiar with the legal, regulatory and social contexts in which they operate. There is a lot of science in those aspects of the food business which generate litigation, including advertising compliance, class action and food-borne illness litigation. Understanding that science and using it to tell the company's story is something in which I am keenly interested. PRODUCTS LIABILITY: I've practiced in this area for my whole career, and especially like novel medical and scientific issues.
